Woman’s Hospital Receives the Highest Louisiana Gift+ Designation

Baton Rouge, La. – Woman’s Hospital announces it has earned the Louisiana Gift+ Designation, the highest award from the Louisiana Perinatal Quality Collaborative (LaPQC) and the Louisiana Department of Health for consistently implementing best practices in our comprehensive breastfeeding support services to help parents of newborns. Woman’s is one of only 10 hospitals in the state to receive this recognition. The Guided Infant Feeding Techniques (Gift) Program focuses on ways to protect, promote, and support breastfeeding and is part of an initiative by LaPQC, LDH, and other local and federal healthcare organizations to improve maternal and infant morbidity and mortality outcomes.

“We are honored to be recognized by LaPQC for our ongoing commitment to supporting breastfeeding patients,” said Tina Englade, Woman’s director of Mother/Baby and Lactation. “This designation reinforces our dedication to providing families with the knowledge and resources they need to navigate their breastfeeding journeys, ensuring that every mother feels empowered and confident.”

Woman’s board-certified lactation consultants and counselors visit patients throughout their hospital stays. Nurses also help families through prenatal and post-discharge support, breastfeeding classes, virtual consultations, and Warmline, a free lactation phone consultation service. In addition, Woman’s Pregnancy App features a breastfeeding tracker to help families monitor and log feedings to help improve their success.

The Louisiana Gift is an evidence-based quality improvement and designation program that provides tools, training and coaching to support Louisiana birthing facilities. Woman’s received its first designation in 2011.

Last month, Woman’s was awarded the Birth Ready+ Designation from the LaPQC for the fourth consecutive year for being responsive to the individual needs of patients and their families and ensuring they are treated with dignity.
