    Benefits of Aquatic Exercise

You can get in the pool to do specific exercises, and you don't need to know how to swim to exercise in water. Many people may be able to tolerate exercise in the water, even if they are not able to do so on land.  If you can stand in a pool, you can reduce as much as 50% of your body weight on your knees and hips.

Principles that allow your body to exercise better in the water than on land:

    • Buoyancy
    • Supportive & Assisted Motion
    • Resistance

Ways to make the exercises easier or harder

    • Start by walking forward, backwards and side to side.
    • Then progress to moving your arms and legs in different directions.
    • To make it harder, hold something in your hands such as a pool noodle.
